Join Andrew, Dexter, Eric and Duff as they head to Omaha to compete in the Bugeater GT.
Sunday – 7:47 p.m. – On the way back
After two days of competition and 22 games played between the four of us, we are back on the road towards Chicago. Bugeater 2018 was one hell of a good time. We’ve already begun talks for next year and cannot wait to go for that Club Cup! But, before that can happen, Dexter, Ben and I are heading to DieCon 2018 next weekend for more Bolt Action!
Sunday – 4:30 p.m. – The Ultimate Prize
Dexter and I were not able to bring the cup to Chicago this year. But we shall return in 2019! We’ve already got big plans for next year and we will be bringing reinforcements.
Sunday – 4:22 p.m. – Eric wins Best Painted!
Out of an 80-player field, Eric took home Best Painted in the Warhammer 40,000 GT! Congrats to Eric and well earned! He also won Best Overall in the Golden Gobbo Fantasy category! All told, Chicago Dice won three awards in the Golden Gobbo.
Sunday, 4:02 p.m. – Scoring error
Turns out, Dexter didn’t win Best Allies…
He did get to keep the gift certificate though.
Sunday, 3:48 p.m. – Dexter wins best Allies!
After two days and five games, Dexter captured the Best Allies award! He also won Best Historical Vehicles in the Golden Gobbo! I managed to win Best Historical Squad with my Kriegsmarine.
Sunday, 10:31 a.m. – Bolt Action Game Four
An Australian patrol advances through a churchyard somewhere on the Western Front, circa July 1944.
Sunday, 9:42 a.m. – Day Two has begun
No rest for the weary as Eric takes to field in game five of the 40k GT.
Saturday, 10:02 p.m. – Day One done
Three games down for Dexter and me. Four down for Eric and Duff. We are currently swapping war story’s around the fire pit with a cigar in hand.
Saturday, 8:20 p.m. – Dinner with the whole crew
The majority of Bolt Action players and few from 40k having a grand ‘ol time after Day One. Well, at least until that local band started playing…
Saturday, 3:10 p.m. – Bugeater rolls on
40k to the left, AoS to the right. Bolt Action and Kings of War just on the other side of the back wall.
Saturday, 2:40 p.m. – Locked in Game Two
Dexter seems unimpressed by his AVRE in Game Two.
Duff’s Squigoth takes a Baneblade straight to the face. I herd the Baneblade did not have a good time.
Saturday, 11:12 a.m. – Bolt Action Game One heating up
Intense game against Mark on an awesome urban table. My Australians are moving into the central ruins to make a push on the objective.
Saturday, 8:41 a.m. – Warhammer 40,000 Game One underway!
Eric and Duff are stuck in for Game One. Dexter and I start Bolt Action in about 15 minutes. Bugeater GT has begun!
Saturday, 7:40 a.m. – Scoping out the tables
We’ve arrived at the tournament and the tables for Bolt Action look fantastic! Dexter is certainly impressed.
Friday, 7:50 p.m. – We found some hats
After arriving in Omaha, we busted out Ethnos, grabbed some drinks and, much to our joy, found a stash of festive hats.
Omaha, Chicago Dice has arrived.
Friday, 2:56 p.m. – Morale is high
Friday, 2:39 p.m. – Scenic Iowa
After being almost rear-ended by a semi, Dexter comments, “That guy only missed us by about seven inches”. Duff replied, “Hey, a failed charge is a failed charge.”
It’s been a good drive.
Thursday, 11:46 p.m. – Final, final prep
I’m off to bed but Duff has a few Flash Gits to finish. I wonder if he’ll try to paint in the car tomorrow…
Thursday, 8:40 p.m. – Final prep
I’ve arrived at Eric’s for final prep. Eric and Duff are about to launch into a practice game. They have four ITC games to play on Saturday and want to get a bit of practice in.
I’ll be working on some winter Germans for an event in November and hanging out with Cooper.
Thursday, 10:12 a.m. – The event lineup
The Chicago Dice team is rolling deep to Bugeater this year. Dexter and I will be competing in the two-day, five-game Bolt Action tournament while Eric and Duff tackle the two-day, six-game Warhammer 40,000 GT. Also, all four of us will be submitting entries into the Golden Gobbo painting competition. Even though there are only four of us, we are going to make a bid for the Bugeater Cup and bring it on home to Chicago!
Expect to see plenty of coverage for both Bolt Action and 40k!
