Join Andrew and Ben as they embark on a cross-country journey to Warlord Games Con in Midwest City, Oklahoma for a weekend of gaming, competition and history.
Sunday, 8:40 p.m. – Home
After another 12 hours in the car, we made it back to Chicago. Warlord Games Con was a great experience. No promises for a 2019 trip yet, but we have plenty of time to plan that next adventure. Right now it’s time to rest and finalize preparations for the Bugeater GT (it’s in two weeks!). Omaha here we come!
Sunday, 3:21 p.m. – Chicago Dice Radio
During the drive back we busted out an external microphone to record our thoughts on the tournament, the con and the trip as a whole. With any luck, this will be the first episode of the Chicago Dice Podcast.
Sunday, 8:30 a.m. – The Long Road Home
It’s 800 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, no cigarettes, it’s raining, and we’re wearing sunglasses.
Saturday, 10:15 p.m. – Deadpool 2
Just got out of Deadpool 2. It was amazing. Had a great time, want to go see it again.
Saturday, 7:30 p.m. – Painting competition results
Andrew managed to come away with Best in Show and Best Squad in the painting competition! He did so with a squad of Italian Askari colonial infantry (we will update with a photo of the winning squad when we get back!)
Saturday, 3:12 p.m. – Tournament results
Three games in the bag and time for results. We ended up tied for fourth place in a field on 37, not bad at all! Sadly, there was not an award for Best Painted. There were some fantastic looking armies out there.
Awards:
- Philip Vernon – Polish – Best Overall
- Lance White – British – Best Allied General
- Oscar Barela – Germans – Best Axis General
Now, it’s time for a late lunch and Deadpool 2.
Saturday, 1:34 p.m. – The refused flank
Massed Chindit formation pushing hard on the right flank in Andrew’s Game 3.
Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – Entries submitted
Wish Andrew luck! Three entries submitted in the Warlord Games painting contest. All for the Historical category – Vehicle, Single Model and Squad.
Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – Game 2 is on
Lots of action early in the second day of the tournament. Ben locked in combat against Seth’s Italians.
Saturday, 8:42 a.m. – Chindit assault in the hedgerows
Game 2 is heating up for Andrew. The Chindits are clashing with Mike’s late-war Germans in a bloody battle in the hedgerows.
Friday, 11:15 p.m. – Game 1 still rolling
I finished up about 15 minutes ago, but Ben is still playing! It’s been a hell of a long day and Game 2 starts at 8:00 am tomorrow.
Friday, 9:20 p.m. – Repin’ Texas BA
Shout out to Casey from Texas Bolt Action for giving us these awesome Texas Bolt Action shirts!
Friday, 8:40 p.m. – Everyone loves an 88
Ben rocked an 88 in his list and the other players loved it. The German Flak 88 is one of the iconic World War II weapons that you almost never see on the table. In game terms, its rules are just not “optimal.” But here at Chicago Dice we only care about one rule, The Rule of Cool.
Friday, 7:20 p.m. – So it begins
Game 1 at Warlord Games Con has begun! After 12 hours in the car, wish Ben and Andrew luck!
Friday, 6:40 p.m. – Arrived!
We’ve made it and checked in. Just waiting on registration and then, game 1! Here’s the trophy we’re playing for.
Friday, 5:40 p.m. – Almost there!
Half an hour out, with an hour and 15 minutes til game 1. Right on time! There’s a lot of cows in Oklahoma.
Friday, 2:50 p.m – Lunch
Legs are sore but we’ve made it through most of our journey. 218 miles to go, and we’ve gone through 6 stories from the Eisenhorn audibook of The Magos, as well as an episode of the WW2 Podcast. Time for some lunch and then finishing the trek to Midwest City.
Friday, 10:35 a.m. – Welcome to Missouri
Just crossed the bridge into St. Louis. 500 miles to go!
Friday, 8:36 a.m. – Breakfast
After about 2.5 hours of driving, first gas and food stop! Had to go with Dunkin, breakfast of champions. Only about 8.5 hours to go.
Friday, 5:40 a.m. – Rise and shine!
Hitting the road early this morning. Our first game is in just over 12 hours. At least 10 of those hours will be spent in the car. Here goes nothing!
Thursday, 10:04 p.m. – Pack your bags
All packed up and ready to hit the road early tomorrow morning. We’ve got a solid ten hours of open road ahead of us so it’s off bed.
Check back right here for updates all weekend long!
