Rules and Missions

The event will be played according to the full Bolt Action: Third Edition rules and the latest FAQ & Erratas (Sept. 2026).

Missions will be based on those from the Bolt Action Rulebook, but with modifications for the sake of theming, balance and overall play experience. Missions will be published prior to the event, once all army lists have been received and approved.

All missions last for a maximum of 2 hrs 30 mins or six turns, whichever is reached first.

Refer to the mission-specific rules for Deployment, Reserves, Infiltrators, Outflanking, and Victory Conditions.

Objectives
All objectives are 25mm in diameter, and units must be within 3″ of the edge of an objective for the purpose of controlling and preventing control. Spotters, Medics and Chaplains may neither control nor prevent control of an objective, along with certain nation-specific units, as indicated in their unit special rules.

Secondary Objectives
A Secondary Objective will be pre-placed on each table. Control of the Secondary Objective is determined at the end of the game and does not contribute any Tournament Points, nor affect the outcome of each mission.

To control the Secondary Objective, a player must have an Infantry or Artillery unit capable of controlling an objective within 3” of the edge of the objective, and there must be no enemy unit itself capable of controlling an objective within 3” of the edge of the objective at the end of the game.

Event Scoring and Pairings

Tournament Points will be awarded as follows:

  • Win 3 Tournament Points
  • Draw 1 Tournament Point
  • Loss 0 Tournament Points

In the case of a player concession, their opponent will be awarded 3 Tournament Points, the Secondary Objective and half of the conceding player’s total Order Dice, or the amount of dice already taken if this is more than half of their total dice. The conceding player will receive 0 Tournament Points, no Secondary Objective, and 0 Order Dice.

Players will be randomly paired for Game 1, after which a Swiss format will be used to generate pairings in Games 2 onwards based on Tournament Points: Secondary Objectives, Order Dice Taken, and Strength of Schedule will be used in that order to split players equal on Tournament Points.

Players will not be drawn together more than once and, where possible, players will not play on the same table more than once. In addition, players from the same Club will not be paired together in Game 1.

The final placings will be determined by the total Tournament Points, with Secondary Objectives, Order Dice Taken and Strength of Schedule used in that order to split players equal on Tournament Points.

Note that whilst certain units do not count for the purpose of determining the winner of a mission, such as Medics, Chaplains and specific Japanese units, their Order Dice are counted for the purpose of determining the number of Order Dice taken in each game.

Awards

Prizes will be awarded for:

  • 1st Place
  • 2nd Place
  • 3rd Place
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Most Sporting (as voted by the players)
  • Best Painted (as chosen by the TOs)
  • Favorite Army (as chosen by the TOs)
