Inspired by Wargames Games Wigan and AdeptiCon Combat Patrol, the One Box, One Army Challenge is a fast and fun way to get started with a new Bolt Action force.
The Challenge is for anyone who’s starting a new army, tackling their Pile of Potential, or taking their first steps into Bolt Action. The goal is the same, get your models built, painted, and onto the battlefield.
Force Construction
One Box – Your force may only include models and components contained in your chosen Platoon Box. Cosmetic conversions, such as head swaps, are allowed, but may not be used to represent weapons, equipment, or units that could not otherwise be built from the Box. Historical and thematic exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis.
Points (TBD) – Your force may not exceed 500pts or 450pts. We have yet to finalize the points.
Order Dice – Your force must contain at least 3 and no more than 8 Order Dice.
Platoons – Your force must contain at least 1 and no more than 4 Platoons.
FOs – Forward Air and Artillery Observers are not allowed.
The Leadership Standard – The Morale level of the Platoon Commander(s) must be equal to or greater than the Morale level of the majority of the units in the Platoon they are leading, not counting the Platoon Commander (rounding up).
Challenge Format
Choose Your Box – All participants choose a single plastic Infantry Platoon Box. Or, for the real Hobby Heroes, allow the dice to pick. No matter the choice, players are confined to the contents of their one, single Platoon Box. Check the d42 table below.
The Challenge Begins – The start date for the One Box, One Army Challenge is Monday, April 19, 2027. Although participants are allowed to begin building and painting their forces whenever they’d like, the official start is not until after AdeptiCon 2027. Any One Box games played prior to April 19 will not count towards your League score.
League Games – The Challenge will include ample opportunity to play games with fellow participants while we all work to get our forces painted. Unpainted models are allowed for these games. Pairing up for Doubles games is encouraged. Submit your League Game results to Andrew via email or Discord.
Game Day – An open game day will be hosted at the Dice Dojo on Saturday, May 15 from 12pm until 6pm to get together and play some games. Unpainted models are allowed. 1v1s and 2v2s will take place. All game results will added to your League score.
The Tournament – The capstone event will be a multi-round tournament of both 1v1 and 2v2 games. The tournament will be hosted at the Dice Dojo on Sunday, June 27 from 11am until 6pm. Fully painted models are required for this event.
Published Updates – Similar to the Dispatches from the Front series of articles publishing during the Chicago Dice Bolt Action Learning League, we would love to have collection submissions from participants for three articles. All participants are welcome to submit for each article and they will be added to New From the Front:
- The Kick-off – Planning and building. Tell us the Box you picked and what you hope to accomplish. Do you have a specific historical inspiration? What units are you going to include in your list? How’s the build going? Any thoughts on the kit itself?
- The First Games – Post-game day, pre-tournament. You’ve hopefully completed building your Box and gotten a few games played – how did they go? Have you started painting yet? Do you need to change your army list?
- The Final Thoughts – Post-tournament, reflections on the Challenge as a whole. Looking back at your One Box, One Army how did it fare? How did your force hold up in the crucible of combat? What were your struggles? Did you feel like your force was missing something? Was the Box enough for a full 500pts? How did the painting go? Now that you are an expert, what should other Bolt Action players know about this Box?
Awards
We will have prizes for:
- Best Painted – As determined by the Judges.
- Favorite Force – As voted by all participants in the Challenge.
- Best General – The participant with the most overall wins during Leagues Games and the Game Day.
- Tournament Champ – The player with the most VPs at the tournament.
- Additional awards TBD.
One Box, One Army Challenge Participants and Forces
More Boxes will be added to the list as they are announced and produced. I’ve still got my fingers crossed for the rumored plastic Chindits from Warlord.
