Armies of Germany: Third Edition Confirmed

The first supplement for Bolt Action: Third Edition has been announced! Planned for Q1 2025, Armies of Germany: Third Edition will be the first Armies of… book with “subsequent national supplements planned on a quarterly release schedule.” The book will include:

Extensive rules and unit profiles allowing players to field the might of the German military on the tabletop in games of Bolt Action: Third Edition, from the armoured fist of the Panzer divisions to the die-hard Fallschirmjäger paratroopers, and many more besides! Packed with full-colour illustrations, beautifully painted miniatures, essential relevant historical background, alongside the game rules, Armies of Germany is a must-have addition to any Bolt Action bookshelf!

The image above was included in the announcement and disappointingly, I’m not seeing any new models. I could be mistaken but this appears to be only existing Warlord Games miniatures. The Hype Train is full steam ahead and has no breaks but getting a sneak peak of some new minis is always a joy. Speaking of new minis, the announcement also confirmed that each Armies of… book will be “accompanied by a wave a fantastic new miniatures for the attendant nations.” The announcement was brief but left me with a mountain of questions.

Will the new Armies of... follow the same style as Frist Edition? Are we going to see a separate book for each of the “Big Five” and then two additional books (one for Minor Axis and one for Minor Allies)? If so, will China be included in the Allies book? At the end of Second Edition nations like France and Italy certainly had enough units and Theater Selector options to warrant their own separate books. How robust will the PDFs for the non-Big Five nations will be at release? And what about the Big Five army lists included in the rulebook? Will those be enough to get players by until their Armies of… book comes out? And what will the Armies of… books actually contain? Will Campaign book content be included? And, most importantly, what will the Italian Army Special Rules be???

So many questions. We only know one thing for certain – the hype is real.

  1. Well, they are kinda the big enemy so getting that one first is logical. What me that it comes more than 3 months after the rulebook, so it that the schedule? All 3 months a book? Meaning over a year till they finished with the big 5,… Not to talk of minor powers. But yes, i really really hope for a good ruleset.

    1. A new Armies of… every three months following the release of the Rulebook – that’s what we know so far. No word on the order and what Nations will or won’t get a book.

We will also have the Minor Powers PDFs right then the Rulebook launches so everyone should be on the same level from the get go. But we shall see!
