Following the example set by Dino over at Chaosbunker, starting last month, we shall abide by a simple rule:
Every month I have a budget of $25 for my hobby.
Just one purchase in July. As a part of my current Bolt Action Kriegsmarine project I wanted to get some foliage to add to the artillery and 7/1 half-track. Etsy has more variety on scale model grass than you can imagine. I went with this Green Grass from Dioramapresepe. Sadly, the shipping is taking much longer than I anticipated so I have not been able to give the product a try.
Month | Funds remaining | Item |
Jan. | $7 | Wargames Illustrated 410 ($8), paint ($10) |
Feb. | -$120 | Epic Black Powder: Waterloo French Starter Army ($145) |
March | $25 | No purchases |
April | $-4 | Geek Gaming Scenics ($35), GCmini ($119), Woodland Scenics ($13), Vallejo ($20), Books sold (+$427) |
May | -$267 | Cigar Box Battle Desert Mat ($75), Forgotten City terrain ($217) |
June | $245 | Selling (+$220) |
July | $6 | Grass Tufts ($19) |
Total | $249 |
With the painting on the guns and half-track finished up, I think the foliage will be an excellent final touch. It was a common sight for artillery and vehicles to add foliage as camouflage to the gumshields, barrels and hulls but you rarely see it on Bolt Action models. Depending on how this turns out, I may go back and add it to other completed models in my collection.
I’ve got a couple of Bolt Action events coming up so hopefully these new grass tufts arrive in time!

I need to take better notes. But had to purchase some supplies for the new jungle terrain display board. Never underestimate the clearance rack at Michaels. You can get so many great foliage items as they flip for seasons.

Got my giant crocodile from Mierce Miniatures, always get me with the 50% off sale…

Sold some more prizes from old events to help keep balancing the budget! Technically bought another event ticket for a local tournament in December.
