12 Months, 25 Dollars – Part 5, August ’21

Following the example set by Dino over at Chaosbunker, starting last month, we shall abide by a simple rule:

Every month we have a budget of $25 for the hobby.

Two more purchases for the slow-burn Tomb Kings project – a set of four Wargames Atlantic Skeleton sprues and a collection of Tomb Kings bits (heads, shields, banner toppers). With the new shipment of skellies, I was able to finish building the infantry units. We are now looking at:

  • x10 Skeleton Warriors with bows – Complete
  • x10 Skeleton Warriors with bows – Built
  • x16 Skeleton Warriors with spears – Complete
  • x16 Skeleton Warriors with hand weapons – Built

I have enough leftover to add a final rank to the unit with hand weapons and that would give me a full block of 20. At this point, 16 is plenty as I plan on using the Tomb Guard as my ‘anvil’ unit. But, it’s always nice to have some extra troops in the collection.

The extra Tomb King bits will be used to add the needed Tomb King flair to these units. The shields will what really sells it. I needed more Tomb King specific heads for the Chariot and Heavy Horse unit (yet to be built) and the extra banner toppers will just provide more variety. You’ll notice in the picture below that the Standard for the hand weapon unit is naked. I’m just waiting for the banner topper to arrive and that will give me four unique ones used on my four infantry units (very pleased with that).

Five months down. We’ve had a couple of close calls (individual months over budget but, still under overall). Next month I’m looking to hold the funds. I think I’ll all set for now. I know, famous last words.

Oops. I am shooting for a more impressive show of will in September by not being able to spend any hobby money…

I bought a set of 28mm Predator masks cause they are awesome and are gonna go on one of my Saurus Guard models. Best of the best through time and space!

  • “Predator” turtle

I also bought more magnets and Green Stuff. I just couldn’t take not building stuff as I was 100% out of green stuff. So I went with another 3 feet…

So now I have plenty of projects and materials to keep my credit card off the internets for the next month.

For August I had nothing in particular planned, besides some sales of miniatures and terrain. I did  had some luck with a terrain sale and upped my funds by an additional 140€, which gave me a total of 155,31€ (taking July’s negative balance into account).

Lately I have been feeling a little burned out on both WWII and Bolt Action in terms of painting and building and I wanted to go back to my ultra moderns passion project, Spectre: Operations. Besides having already a box of unpainted and literally untouched metal minis from Spectre, they announced a new un-previewed release with some “Covert Packs”. Covert Packs are surprise boxes with five random minis from their range plus a limited edition miniature from a previous release.

Due to Brexit and high shipping cost I decided to get some other miniatures that I urgently need, which were currently on stock. All in all it was a pretty big order with around 200€ + the VAT for import in Germany.  As usual I had a minor regret, chucking so much cash at an order again, but, what the hell? It’s better then getting drunk for 200 bucks in the club 😉

For September I have some more terrain sales planned. It’s all things that I haven’t used in a long time and is just occupying space on the shelf.
