1. Using your hobby clippers snip the two nubs off the bottom of the models base.
2. With the nubs removed the base is ready for the washer.
3. Apply a small amount of superglue around the entire edge of the washer. Firmly hold the washer in place for a few seconds and then let the model stand for the superglue to dry.
Adding magnets to the unit trays
1. Use your scissors to cut the magnetic sheet into a long strip. Then cut small rectangles from the strip.
2. Add a rectangle to each spot on the unit tray.
3. Done! The models sit just a bit higher in the unit tray but these guys are locked in.
4. Optional step – the flip test.
Storage
1. Grab your stacking storage bins, these will be your transport and storage solution.
2. Measure the magnetic sheet and cut as needed. I had to trim about an inch from the top of the sheet.
3. Peel the adhesive cover off the back of the magnetic sheet and stick it to the bottom of the bin.
4. Cut a second magnetic sheet as needed to cover the remaining space on the bottom of the bin.
5. Fill the bins with your models. The washers glued to the bases will create a secure hold.
6. Racked, stacked and ready to march for battle!
Enjoy! I’ve been using a similar solution for my Bolt Action armies for years without issue. I cannot go back to foam – this is easier and cheaper.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments.

Very nice, plus it adds a small amount of weight to the plastic mini. I’m getting close to setting up a magnetic storage box. I’ve already weight the minis with a washer that will stick to a magnet (some won’t). Just need to find storage boxes that are fairly shallow, so everything will still fit only my shelves.
The added heft is a great feature as well! Luckily there are tons of options for storage boxes out there. The ones that Ben uses are shorter than mine – you shouldn’t have too much trouble tracking some down that work for you.
If you have a Dremel tool, these bits also work pretty well to remove any protrusions from under the base, whether it be the underside of slotta tabs, etc.
Is the 60 mil thickness needed? What about the washers? Was considering getting less thick on both so they won’t be so raised. Thoughts? I still want them to stay put 🙂
I’d be worried that the bond wouldn’t be strong enough without direct contact between the washer and the magent. But you could certainly give it a try!
I used 1/8 x 1 fender washers and they fit like a glove. I’m also using flatter magnets and they seem to be holding very secure. This was a fantastic idea and thanks so much for sharing!

Oh very slick! If these models had been metal or a tougher plastic I would have needed this for sure.

I’ve heard about buying galvanized flashers but this aliases to different. Can you link to the magnetic sheet you bought or explain where you got it?

No problem! The magent sheets I used are linked in the “What you will need” section.
