Notes and Analysis
The objective of this list is two-part: 1) use as many of the components from a single box of infantry as possible, and 2) make a list that works at a semi-competitive level. Please keep in mind, this list was written using only the content of a single box of infantry.
This is a 7 Order Dice, 500pt force that uses 26 of the 30 miniatures in the box. It is made for Mid to Late-War era games, and is designed to make good use of the plastic Flamethrowers included in the kit.
Your two MMG Teams are intended to hold the back line and provide covering fire for the rest of the army as they advance on the enemy. The Vet Sturmpionere Squad should keep behind the Reg Pioneers and provide support with the GrB-39, which also acts as our Anti-tank weapon. The Pioneer Squads are made for close quarters combat, packing five SMGs and a Flamethrower each, which should make quick work of the enemy when they get in range.
*Note, this is not a legal Army List as there is no Rifle Platoon. Allowing an Engineer Platoon instead of a Rifle Platoon is something that has been growing in popularity and is always an option if your opponent agrees. This Army List demonstrates the versatility of the Veteran Germany Infantry box to as an Engineer Platoon, something that new players may not consider.
What’s Next?
Consider these additions to your 500pt 1 Box Army:
- Add more men: The Pioneer and Sturmpionere Squads lack manpower. Four more men, two with SMGs can be added to the Pioneers, and the Sturmpionere can also take an LMG on top of five more men.
- Add some Transports: Flamethrowers only have a 6″ range, but this can be mitigated with an Opel Blitz Truck, or more thematically, a Sd.Kfz 251/7C Pionierwagen.
- Add some AT: The GrB-39 is good, but some proper AT will help if your opponent brings anything tougher than a Light Tank. Alternatively, some Howitzers can pull double duty and also help with clearing the table of enemy infantry.
